Paola Ravenna graduated in Business economy at Ca’ Foscary University, and studied Urban Management” at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She chose to work for the “Public”, and has spent more than 20 years working for the City of Venice, developing Sustainable Integrated Urban Projects in the framework of European Cohesion Policy. In this role she has had the opportunity to look at, learn from and be inspired by the solutions that other European cities have adopted. Her aim is to contribute to social innovation and to increase the quality of life for European citizens.
António Pires de Matos received his degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Lisbon in 1962 and a PhD in Chemistry, Cambridge, U.K in 1970. In 2001 he was invited as Full Professor by the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa where, together with colleagues from fines arts of the University of Lisbon, he founded the Research Unit Glass and Ceramics for the arts, VICARTE. In 2008 he retired as Coordinator Researcher of the Portuguese Nuclear Institute after working more than 40 years. He was nominated as Fellow of the Society of Glass Technology, U.K in 2009, and in 2016 was awarded the Alberto Romão Dias prize of the Portuguese Chemical Society for his career in chemistry. In 2015 he coordinated the exhibition “within light / inside glass, an intersection between art and science”, curated by Francesca Giubilei at Palazzo Loredan, Venice and in the Millennium Gallery, Lisbon. In 2019 he coordinated two exhibitions about glass colour, one in the Festival of Glass, Stourbridge, UK, and the other integrated within The Venice Glass Week.
Emmanuel Babled was born in France in 1967 and graduated in Industrial Design at the European Institute of Design in Milan. He has been an invited professor and has developed workshops at Domus Academy in Milan and the Design Academy of Eindhoven. He started his activity as a designer in Paris and moved to Milan in 1992, the city where he founded his own studio and worked for 18 years. Before settling in Lisbon in early 2016, he lived for five years in Amsterdam. He is working for over 25 years in Murano in the creation of limited and exclusive series. Babled Editions, is also producing limited editions of furniture, accessories and other design objects - a result of extensive research on the traditional techniques of different countries - an activity that he keeps abreast with the creation of projects, design consulting and curating for large companies and prestigious brands.
Martyn Marshall studied Materials Science specialising in glass and ceramics under Dr. John Parker and Prof. Michael Cable at The University of Sheffield where his final year dissertation looked at the corrosion of AZS refractories in fibre glass. Martyn has over 30 years‘ experience in the design, development and production of silicate and non-silicate glasses for both commercial and scientific use, working globally with glassmakers. He is proud to be a Fellow of the Society of Glass Technology and has written numerous scientific papers as well as presenting Glass Technology Services research at conferences all around the world.Martyn has worked on innovative glass for use within the biomaterials sector, leading developments into new techniques for additive manufacture and creating continuously drawn bioresorbale phosphate glass fibres . Martyn has also worked on numerous projects looking at the recycling sustainability and optimisation for glasses, most recently looking at the introduction of alternate raw materials to promote materials recovery, increased recycled content and promotion of the understanding of sustainability for glass.
Roberto Gasparotto lives between Como and Milan. He studied design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, and graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano with Franca Helg as thesis adviser. He worked with architect Luigi Zuccoli, during his studies. From 1981 to 1991 at Flos-Bovezzo Brescia he was the product development manager for Flos and Arteluce brands, collaborating with various designers including Achille Castiglioni, Tobia Scarpa, Philippe Starck, King Miranda. From 1991 to January 2020 he was the research&development manager at Venini-Murano Venice, and the art director for the Artglass, Artlight and Contract divisions, collaborating with several designers including Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Gae Aulenti, Mario Bellini, Guggisberg-Baldwin, Emmanuel Babled, Gianni Versace, Campana, Barber-Osgerby, Peter Marino, Ron Arad. Today he is involved in interiors/architecture projects and research in art and design.
