The conference will focus on some lesser-known aspects of glass. The program includes three lectures: the first will be about the toxicity level and the safety of lead crystal, and to the issues related to the migration of metals from glass, including that used in the pharmaceutical field. The second lecture will focus on the production and application of glass fibre as a thermal and acoustic insulator. The production techniques of glass will be presented, highlighting safety issues such as its inert and non-flammable nature. The third lecture will be dedicated to mirrors, which are staples of the glass industry. The historical and artistic evolution of mirrors in Murano, and the competition with French mirror makers, will be narrated.
