The Lamp-Blown Glass of Bruno Amadi: Flora of the Lagoon and Sea

Bruno Amadi

Description

Bruno Amadi has been shaping wonderful natural forms by lamp with extraordinary skill for forty-three years in his shop in Calle dei Saoneri, San Polo. Starfish, anchovies, whitebait, lizards, frogs, butterflies, mushrooms, beans, peas, holly, snails, very light spiders, dragonflies and ants are all brought to life from the coloured glass canes. Born in Burano, Amadi moved with his family when he was a child to Murano, where his father worked at a glassworks. He and his five brothers learnt to ‘handle glass’ from their father, but only he continued, expressing a real passion for this art. Starting at a glassworks at the age of eleven, he worked for Salviati, Mazzega and Barbini, and also attended Anzolo Fuga’s design courses at the Abate Zanetti glassmakers school. His inspiration is drawn from careful observation of nature, assisted byphotographs and drawings, which he combines with technical expertise, the careful composition of colours and a passion that, he emphasises, continues to stimulate his work.
