Inspiration: The Fontana, Manzoni and Burri Vases

Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga with Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia

Description

With over twenty years’ experience of working with glass behind him, Giberto Arrivabene, who loves nothing better than marrying the expertise of Murano glassmasters to Art with a capital A, has devised three large vases inspired by the signature works of three great postwar artists – Fontana’s Tagli, Manzoni’s Achrome and Burri’s Combustioni. With the assistance of Glassmaster Gianni Seguso he has created the Fontana, with deep hot-carved incisions that seem to slash its surface; the Manzoni, wrapped with a skein of filaments applied at heat; and the Burri, with its inserted black blown-glass bubbles heat-applied at the end of the process, the whole then irregularly covered in wispy, almost wrinkly transparent glass, to recreate the impression of the plastic melted by the Umbrian artist’s blowtorch.
