Glass sculptures, although closely linked to historical techniques and the secrets of Murano production, perhaps represent the part that best highlights the artistic expression and design skills of the island’s glass masters. The master-artist usually straddles several fields, experimenting with that of drawing to that of engraving, developing the relationships between space, matter and light, between geometric rigor and lyricism. After having assimilated the rules and potential of the glassmaking tradition, he follows the path of "sculptural conceptualism". The master therefore looks at the dimension of the sculpture, at glass as a material that composes forms, curves, three-dimensional spatial figures, sometimes including materials that create results that differ from those traditionally forged in Murano’s furnaces.
