The glass colour in Art – Novel Glasses with Different Optical properties

Research Center, Glass and Ceramic for the Arts, VICARTE, FCT, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa

Description

VICARTE proposes to organize an exhibition focused on novel glasses with different optical properties for application in art works. Glasses with different colours will be shown and the elements used in their preparation will be discussed. Luminescent glasses doped with rare earth oxides will be presented, showing their different luminescent colours under UV light. For the first time luminescent glass pieces using opaque white glass from Effetre will also be exposed. Furthermore, coloured glasses, under daylight, including red and yellow glasses obtained by new surface colouring techniques will be presented. This exhibition will be well integrated in the International Year of the Periodic Table as the several elements used in the glass colouring process will be described.
