The Shape of the Glass

Massimo Ballardin

Description

In this project the artist's attention and gaze are directed to the process of creating the glass work, overcoming the definition of the object itself. The semirefractorie mould, designed and created to give shape, identity and structure to the first flat glass melting, is no longer a secondary support, to be hidden, it now becomes an element of dialogue with the glass object. It is a comparison between opposite complementary materials: the physical and static nature of the clay on the one hand and the transparency and lightness of the glass on the other. Diversity is overcome precisely by their combination. The heat allows the glass to recline and surrender to gravity,  to take shape keeping memory of the marks, the signs, the sinuous and soft waves of the earth. In a vital impulse, given by the physical property of the vitreous matter and light, the glass work seems to free itself to recover a new life. The colour and the non-colour resonate within the glass structure, reflecting and refracting the light. Overlapping textures that hint to a primordial form of weaving create complex and unexpected chromatic vibrations.

The inauguration of this exhibition will take place on September, 11th at the same venue.
